Amber van den Heuvel's artistic journey is an exploration of human connection, inspired deeply by the South African philosophy of Ubuntu, which emphasizes our interconnectedness and mutual dependence. Rooted in this philosophy, her work delves into the intricate web of relationships that shape our existence.

During her four years at the art academy, van den Heuvel discovered a fundamental truth: her art is inseparable from the people around her. Without their presence, her work remains dormant, devoid of its essence. Embracing this notion as her creative ethos, she channels her energy into capturing the essence of connection through various mediums, including film, photography, and other forms of artistic expression.

Her work serves as a testament to the richness of human interaction, constantly seeking out new stories and forging meaningful connections. For van den Heuvel, it is from these connections that creativity flourishes and new perspectives emerge.

In addition to her exploration of connection, van den Heuvel's work often grapples with themes of hedonism and escapism. Through documentary photography, she confronts and challenges the stereotypes and biases associated with these concepts, inviting viewers to reconsider their perceptions and delve deeper into the complexities of human experience.

Besides being an artist, Van den Heuvel also works as the program-maker and projectleader for The Hub in Arnhem, gives workshops on profiling, teaches at Rijnijssel, is creative director for Kunstradar, and is finishing a master program at Radboud university.
